CSSC LAN

Posted on

CSSC is holding its second LAN in tutorial room 2.28 of the Computer Science building, on Tuesday April 10, during the mid-semester break. We will be gaming all day long in the tutorial room, from 10am to 6pm, and the club room will be open to sell snacks and drinks. Entry is free, although places will be limited.

Also due to popular demand, for the first time ever there will be a FIFA tournament during the LAN, on the Xbox in the club room. First prize will be a copy of FIFA, with consolation prizes available for second and third place. Further details will be coming shortly.

More details and updates can be found on the Facebook event for CSSC LAN.

CSSC @ Prosh

Posted on

Prosh is an annual charity event by the UWA Guild, where UWA students take a morning off classes to dress up and sell satirical newspapers to people in the city. This year’s Prosh’s charities are Surf Life Saving Western Australia, Foodbank of WA and Youthfocus. You can find out more about Prosh at the Prosh 2012 web site and also at Wikipedia).

This year CSSC is dressing as rage faces for Prosh. We will organise a day in the club room to make costumes, will go as a group on the day at Prosh, and depending on whether anyone is interested, may perform a skit on the day.

Organisation, news and updates can be found on the Facebook event for CSSC @ Prosh.

First week of semester events

Posted on

Note: Our fliers, website and Facebook page originally listed the wrong time for the “What I Wish I Knew in First Year Talk”. It’s at 1pm (not at 12pm)

Semester 1 starts this coming Monday, and to kick it off we have organised a few events aimed towards first year students and new members to the club. Everyone is welcome to attend all of our events; CSSC has no members-only events. That said, membership does entitle you to discounts to club events and services, so membership is certainly worthwhile.

On Tuesday at 1pm we have the first barbecue of the semester, which will be in the Rex Prider Courtyard, just outside the Computer Science building. Tuesdays from 1pm to 2pm are a common lunch hour for UWA, so you should not have any classes scheduled during this time.

On Thursday at 1pm we have organised an informal talk session entitled ”What I Wish I Knew in First Year”, which cover topics ranging from educational to general university life. The talk will be in the the Seminar Room, room 1.24, in the first floor of the Computer Science building. There will be a free barbecue afterwards for those who attended the talk (please RSVP in the Facebook event) and if you attend the event you will be in the draw to win an Amazon Kindle, generously provided by IBM.

On Friday at 1pm we have our first weekly CSSC at BoB’s. BoB’s is the Broadway Tavern (formerly known as “Basement on Broadway”, i.e. BoB’s). There is a map in the Facebook event, but if you turn up to the club room about 15 minutes before, some of us will be walking down to BoB’s from there. Fridays from 1pm to 2pm are also a second common lunch hour for UWA.

On Tuesday, in second week, at 1pm we have the Fresher Welcome BBQ. First years who “like” the CSSC Facebook page will receive a free sausage, hash brown and drink at the barbecue. The CSSC Facebook page is also a great way to keep informed about educational and social events happening in and around CS, so it’s a good idea to “like” it anyway.

Finally, you should come to our club room some time and introduce yourselves.

Come see us at O-Day 2012!

CSSC will be hosting a stall at the 2012 UWA Guild O-Day Festival, this Friday, so come and see us and join the CSSC for 2012. We will be signing up new members, and handing out fliers about the club and some up-coming events for Semester One 2012.

We’ll be in stall A04, near Entry 2 on the James Oval. You can find a map of the stalls in the O-Day Brochure, which can be found on the Guild’s O-Day Festival web site. More information can also be found on the Facebook event.

You should also check out the CSSC Facebook page. “Like” our Facebook page for a free sausage, hash brown and drink at the Fresher Welcome BBQ. We will also be using the CSSC Facebook page to post about educational and social events happening in and around CS, so “liking” the page is a good way to keep informed.

Finally, remember to come and see us in the club room when semester starts.
