Note: Our fliers, website and Facebook page originally listed the wrong time for the “What I Wish I Knew in First Year Talk”. It’s at 1pm (not at 12pm)
Semester 1 starts this coming Monday, and to kick it off we have organised a few events aimed towards first year students and new members to the club. Everyone is welcome to attend all of our events; CSSC has no members-only events. That said, membership does entitle you to discounts to club events and services, so membership is certainly worthwhile.
On Tuesday at 1pm we have the first barbecue of the semester, which will be in the Rex Prider Courtyard, just outside the Computer Science building. Tuesdays from 1pm to 2pm are a common lunch hour for UWA, so you should not have any classes scheduled during this time.

On Thursday at 1pm we have organised an informal talk session entitled ”What I Wish I Knew in First Year”, which cover topics ranging from educational to general university life. The talk will be in the the Seminar Room, room 1.24, in the first floor of the Computer Science building. There will be a free barbecue afterwards for those who attended the talk (please RSVP in the Facebook event) and if you attend the event you will be in the draw to win an Amazon Kindle, generously provided by IBM.
On Friday at 1pm we have our first weekly CSSC at BoB’s. BoB’s is the Broadway Tavern (formerly known as “Basement on Broadway”, i.e. BoB’s). There is a map in the Facebook event, but if you turn up to the club room about 15 minutes before, some of us will be walking down to BoB’s from there. Fridays from 1pm to 2pm are also a second common lunch hour for UWA.
On Tuesday, in second week, at 1pm we have the Fresher Welcome BBQ. First years who “like” the CSSC Facebook page will receive a free sausage, hash brown and drink at the barbecue. The CSSC Facebook page is also a great way to keep informed about educational and social events happening in and around CS, so it’s a good idea to “like” it anyway.
Finally, you should come to our club room some time and introduce yourselves.
